Type locality: "Esmeraldas, Ecuador".  
TypesSyntypes: BMNH 1946.1.22.56, 1947.3.5.58 and 1947.3.5.59.
Holotype: USNM 45905 [Chelopus gabbii] 
EtymologyNamed after the diminutive form (“annul-”) of Latin “anus” = ring, and probably refers to the growth rings on the carapace.
