CommentSynonymy: Peters 1861 placed Dapatnaya trevelyanii in synonymy of Rhinophis homolepis (Hemprich, 1820) and commented in a footnote that Kelaart's Dapatnaya trevelyanus (sic) was the first name under which this species has been described.

Rhinophis homolepis HEMPRICH 1820 is not a nomen nudum (as claimed by some authors) according to McDiarmid et al 1999; Bauer et 2002.
EtymologyNamed after Greek homos (ὁμῶς), equally, likewise, alike + Greek lepis (λεπίς), scale, apparently after the homologenous scalation.

D. Trevelyanii was named in honour of Mr. Trevelyan.
