CommentType species: Emphrassotis simoterus O’SHAUGHNESSY 1879: 296 is the type species of the genus Emphrassotis O’SHAUGHNESSY 1879.
EtymologyKIZIRIAN (1996) was uncertain of the etymology of the specific epithet, simoterus, except that it is considered to be an adjective. The first part of the name, simo-, may be derived from the Greek word simo meaning "pug-nosed," a characteristic mentioned in the first sentence of the original description.
