Comment 
EtymologyThe specific epithet, meleagris, a noun in the nominative singular case, is Greek for "guinea fowl, "and probably refers to the speckled color pattern characteristic of this species (at least in some parts of its plumage). Meleagris is also the genus name for turkeys.
