Types	Holotype: QM J244. A previous lectotype designation of J19743 (formerly part of J255), from Gympie [locality in error] by Wells & Wellington (1985) was based on the prior identification of syntypes by Covacevich (1971), but see Ingram (1994) for resolution of the limits of the type series.
Diagnosis
Comment	Synonymy: COGGER 1983 synonymized Mocoa spectabilis with Lampropholis challengeri (= Saproscincus challengeri). Sadlier et al. (1993) claimed that Mocoa spectabilis de Vis, 1888 was a senior synonym of Lampropholis basiliscus Ingram & Rawlinson, 1981, and thus the available name for the taxon. This was based on their identification of the 'lectotype' of Mocoa spectabilis (Queensland Museum specimen QMJ19743), which was declared by Wells & Wellington (1985). QM J255, QM J19742-3are S. basiliscus [INGRAM 1994].
Etymology	Presumably named after the Latin spectabilis (showy) in relation to the coloration. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
