Type locality: Five miles south of San Pedro, Coahuila.

TypesHolotype: FMNH 32001, originally field no. 350, collected 20 June 1934 by David Dunkle and H. M. Smith 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Smith 1939: 232. 
CommentSceloporus nelsoni coeruleus TANNER & ROBINSON 1959 is a junior homonym of Sceloporus ornatus caeruleus Smith (1937d), and hence an unavailable senior synonym of Sceloporus nelsoni barrancarum TANNER & ROBINSON. 
EtymologyThe Latin adjective caeruleus means "sky-blue," and refers to the dorsal background color and the solid blue ventral color.
