CommentLimb morphology: This species lost its forelimb entirely and retains only two digits on the hind limb.
EtymologyNamed after J. H. Kasner, who collected it at Lambert’s Bay in 1917. This is likely to be James (Jim) Henry Kasner, b. 2 Aug 1893, eldest son of Ferdinand Emil Pieter Kasner (b. 1870, d, 25/5/1936) and his wife Clara Johanna Wilhelmina Veer Kasner (d. 3 12/1920). Ferdinand Kasner was the first caretaker of Guano Island at Lambert’s Bay, appointed 1910, and he and his wife both died at Lambert’s Bay. James Henry Kasner would have been 24 at the time of collecting the type. (Glenn Shea, pers. comm., 2 Feb 2024)
