Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Sibon manzanaresi differs from all other species of the S. annulatus group, as defined by Savage (2002) and McCranie (2006), except S. linearis and S. sanniolus, in lacking distinctive ventral markings. The new species can be distinguished from those two species by lacking preoculars, with the loreal bordering the eye (versus preoculars present, separating loreal from eye) and by having higher numbers of ventrals and subcaudals. The dorsal pattern of having small darker brown blotches to darker brown crossbands on the paler brown nape and dark brown flecking, or a dark brown variegated pattern with additional spotting, or darker brown dorsal and lateral blotches on the paler brown posterior portion of the body in S. manzanaresi is also unique in the S. annulatus group. (McCranie 2007) |
Comment | Sibon manzanaresi is a member of the Sibon annulatus species group. Within this group, the new species appears most closely related to Sibon dimidiatus and S. miskitus. Habitat: fully arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). |
Etymology | Named after Tomás Manzanares who collected the first specimen of this species. |
