DistributionPhilippines (S Leyte and Palawan Province)

Type locality: "Cabalian, southern Leyte," Philippines.  
Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesNeotype: CAS 60930 designated by Buskirk (1989).
Holotype: "An unnumbered specimen in the zoölogical laboratory, University of the Philippines," Diliman, Quezon City, later transferred to the Bureau of Science according to Taylor 1944:160; destroyed during World War II.

CommentConservation: This is one of the 25 most endangered turtle species according to a 2003 assessment by the IUCN.

Relationships: Based on mitochondrial DNA sequences, this species is closely related to Siebenrockiella crassicollis (DIESMOS et al. 2005).

Habitat: freshwater (Rivers, swamps)

Abundance: Rare. This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024.
