Comment | This “is a dimorphic species with a spotted and an uniform phase. In fact, one of the 2 new specimens (n. 6061 M.F.), nearly identical to the type material, was a very light pearl-grey colour and showed only a faint pattern on head and neck (Fig. 37), while the other (n. 6062 M.F.) had an elegant series of brown blotches all over the body, 43 on the trunk and a score on the tail (Figs 39, 40).” (from LANZA 1978: 288). Etymology | Named after Prof. Giuseppe Scortecci, 1898-1973, Italian herpetologist and the collector of the type. Lanza does not comment on why he uses “joseph” in the name. |
