DistributionDominican Republic (Barahona, Azua, Pico Diego de Ocampo, summit dome, between Puerta Plata and Santiago, Prov. Santiago, Sierra de Neiba, Province Duarte), Hispaniola.

darlingtoni: República Dominicana, western Cordillera Septentrional. Type locality: “Mt. Diego de Ocampo, summit dome, ca. 4000 feet, between Puerto Plata and Santiago, Dominican Republic”

bobilini: República Dominicana, Sierra Martin Garcia. Type locality: West slope of Mt. Bilsu, between 610 and 854 meters, Barahona Province, Republica Dominicana.

mekistus: República Dominicana, Sierra de Neiba. Type locality: 11 km S Comendador, 854 meters, Elias Pifia Province, Republica Dominicana

noblei: northeastern República Dominicana, southeast to Hato Mayor and La Romana provinces. Type locality: Los Bracitos, Duarte Province, Republica Dominicana.

Comment 
EtymologyNamed for P. J. Darlington, the collector of the type

S. d. bobilini was named after Robert K. Bobilin who collected the original specimen.

S. d. mekistus was named after Greek mekistus = "remote," in allusion to the geographic distance of this subspecies from other populations of the species.

S. d. noblei was named after G. K. Noble, the collector of the type.
