Comment | For illustrations see Grant, 1940. The main distinction between S. r. richardsoni and S. r. gossei is the presence of unicolor males in the nominate subspecies versus essentially female-colored males in S. r. gossei. |
Etymology | Named after the collector or donor, “Presented by Dr. Richardson” (Gray 1845: 169) S. r. gossei was named after P. H.Gosse who wrote “A Naturalist's Sojourn in Jamaica.” (1851) and who collected the types of Sphaerodactylus richardsoni. |
