Type locality: Sierra de Hato Nuevo between Hato Nuevo (Marti) and Sabanilla de la Palma, Matanzas Province, Cuba.

EtymologyNamed after its intermediate appearance, between S. torrei and S. elegans. From Latin intermedius, that is between, intermediate.
