Comment | KLUGE 1993 lists epizemius as valid species and docimus as synonym. RÖSLER 2000 lists epizemius but not docimus. Schartz & Garrido 1985 clarify that epizemius accidentally became a nomen nudum and was redescribed as a new species under the name docimus. |
Etymology | Named after the Greek for "remarkable," an allusion to the existence of this intermedius-like species so far removed from its closest relative and to the fact that it has not been re-collected in nearly half a century despite visits by several herpetologists and collectors to the Cabo Cruz region. Brown (1954) has the Greek dokimos as translated to tested, approved. |
