USA (introduced to Florida).

amaurus: Bahama Is.: Great Bahama Bank; CatI., Little San Salvador I.

atactus: Cuba; Cayos bs Ballenatos; apparently introduced on Morant Cays and Great Inagua I., Bahama Is.; probable subspecies on Pedro Cays.

peltastes: Bahama Is.: Little Bahama Bank.

INCERTAE SEDIS: Taxonomic status of Isla de la Juventud, Cayos de San Felipe, and Archipiélago de los Canarreos populations is uncertain.

Type locality: Key West, Monroe County, Florida.

Subspecies: Sphaerodactylus notatus exsul BARBOUR 1914 has been elevated to full species.

Distribution: Reports from Honduras (WILSON & MCCRANIE 2002) are now considered as S. exsul (MCCRANIE 2015). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin notatus, meaning "marked", an allusion to the spotted pattern of males of the nominate subspecies.

S. n. atactus was named after Greek, "irregular" in reference to the variability of occurrence of the scapular spot and ocelli.

S. n. amaurus was named after Greek, "blind") in allusion to the absence of scapular spots and ocelli.

S. n. peltastes was named after Greek, "one who bears a target") alluding to the scapular spot and ocelli.
