spielmani: Cuba (Rio Hatibonico to Bahia de Guantánamo); Type locality: Guantánamo, Guantanamo Province, Cuba; emended to east side of Rio Hatibonico, about one-quarter mile inland, approximately 10 miles west of the western side of the mouth of the Bahia de Guantanamo, Guantanamo Province, Cuba by THOMAS 1968.

Etymology | Named after Professor Carlos de la Torre y la Huerta (1858-1950), regarded as the foremost Cuban naturalist of his generation. He was closely associated with the Smithsonian, but he died some 10 years before Castro took power and Cuba became isolated from USA. |
