DiagnosisDESCRIPTION: Size moderate (SVL in males to 32 mm, in females to 32 mm); dorsals small, acute, strongly keeled, flattened, imbricate, axilla to groin 34-48; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, imbricate, axilla to groin 27-36; dorsal caudal scales keeled basally, smooth distally, acute, imbricate, flat-lying, ventral caudal scales smooth, cycloid, enlarged midventrally; snout acuminate, not depressed or decurved; snout scales small, broad, flat, juxtaposed; 1 postnasal; 0-2 (mode 1) internasals; upper labials to mideye 3-4 (mode 3); gular scales variable, from weakly to fairly strongly keeled or even smooth; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 54-66; escutcheon with short, compact central area and extensions onto thighs to near underside of knee, 4-9 x 15-28. Pattern sexually dichromatic; dorsum (males) grayish to tan, finely "salt-and- pepper," occasionally showing remnants of female pattern; head dull yellow, usually immaculate, occasionally with large, dark, discrete dots; throat immaculate or with a few dark brown lateral flecks; tail dull yellow, upper side vaguely marbled with brownish; dorsum (females) grayish to tan, with a series of 7-8 brown, transverse dark bars with irregular edges, the first 2 on neck and scapular region; head concolor with dorsum, with: (1) a brown loreotemporalline on each side, ending on occiput, at times joined to its mate by first transverse bar on neck, and (2) an isolated, dark median line from between eyes onto occiput, usually expanded and sharply distinct posteriorly, at times fused with first dark, transverse neck bar, or fragmented; throat immaculate; underside of tail pinkish orange to lemon yellow (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 474).
