Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size moderate (SVL in males to 32 mm, in females to 31 mm); dorsals keeled, tectiform, imbricate, axilla to groin 21-30; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, imbricate, axilla to groin 22-34; dorsal caudal scales keeled, fiat, acute, imbricate, ventral caudal scales cycloid, imbricate, enlarged midventrally; snout acuminate, not depressed or decurved; snout scales small, narrow, swollen, smooth, imbricate; 1 postnasal; 0-3 (mode 1) internasals; upper labials to mideye 3-4 (strongly modally 3); gular scales smooth to keeled; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 40-51; escutcheon 4-7 x 10-26. Pattern sexually dichromatic; dorsum (males as preserved) more or less unicolor brown to "salt-and-pepper" brown; scapular patch absent, ocelli present; head heavily dotted or marbled with dark brown, including throat, in strong contrast to rest of body; dorsum (females) typically bilineate; scapular patch and grayish ocelli almost always present; head dark trilineate, with a median dark line (narrow on snout, expanding on occiput, and continuing to scapular patch), laterally with a narrow, dark canthal line to eye on each side, continuing posteriorly to margin of scapular patch, the 2 lines forming a more or less square, brownish area surrounding scapular patch; sides of neck brownish, dotted with darker brown; upper lip mottled dark brown and pale; throat as in males; chest diffusely stippled dark brown; ventral scales edged with dark brown, giving rather dark venter (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 476). |
