Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 25 mm, in females to 29 mm); dorsals large, acute, flattened, imbricate, axilla to groin 24-36; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, imbricate, axilla to groin 24-31; dorsal caudal scales keeled, acute, imbricate, flat-lying, ventral caudal scales smooth, cycloid, enlarged midventrally; snout moderately blunt, slightly depressed, not decurved; snout scales small, elongate, keeled, subimbricate to imbricate; 1-2 postnasals; 1-3 internasals; upper labials to mideye 3; gular scales between infralabial rami very small to small, keeled, almost granular, subimbricate, central gulars small to very small, almost granular, subimbricate, keeled; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 48-59; escutcheon with narrow central area with extensions onto thighs to behind knee, 2-5 (mode 2-3) x 14-28. Dorsum not sexually dichromatic; dorsum dark wood-brown (almost black), medium brown, brown, flecked with darker pigment; dorsal pattern with paired, white scapular ocelli divided into separate anterior and posterior portions, anterior portion roughly U-shaped with median anteriad indentation, posterior portion roughly U-shaped, set off from black scapular patch; head with light, central, bilobed mark followed by light (buffy, whitish, yellowish brown, yellow-tan, light brown), paired or bilobed marks on occiput; throat unmarked to heavily marked with dark pigment; sacrum with dorsolateral light lines; tail with light chevronate markings; venter pale to heavily pigmented, at times underlain with orange (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 486). |
