Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size very small (SVL in males to 18 mm, in females to 20 mm); dorsal scales flattened, keeled, imbricate, axilla to groin 30-34; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, axilla to groin 27-30; dorsal caudal scales acute, keeled, flattened, flat-lying, ventral caudal scales smooth, enlarged midventrally; snout moderate, rostral with large, flat, dorsal area bordered by rim and sloping toward tip; snout scales broad, subhexagonal, keeled, cobble-like, subimbricate; 1-2 (strongly modally 2) postnasals; 1-2 (mode 1) internasals; upper labials to mideye 3; gular scales smooth; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 51-57; escutcheon 5-7 x 15-19. No sexual dichromatism; dorsum brown with markings darker brown to black; paired, cream, dark-edged scapular ocelli dorsolaterally, not joined by a dark scapular patch; broad, dark-edged dorsolateral stripes present in scapular region, uppermost stripe-edge on each side interrupted by scapular ocelli, stripes fade just beyond level of axillae; sacral markings indistinct dark lines; head with dark preocular lines and pale, transverse snout bar; pale, anterior cephalic figure bilobed, extending behind eyes onto parietal region and having a short, pale extension from posterolateral comers of each lobe; a small pale parietal spot between posterior parts of lobes; a pair of pale, dark-edged, transverse midnuchal marks; caudal pattern lineate (dorsolateral, lateral, ventro-lateral dark lines) with light spots or ocelli along dorsalmost pair; venter off-white (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 519). |
