Distribution(Hispaniola), Dominican Republic, Haiti

streptophorus: low and intermediate elevations south of Massif de la Selle-Sierra de Baoruco along Dominico-Haitian border; eastern Peninsula de Barahona. Type locality: Pedernales, Pedernales Province, República Dominicana.

sphenophanes: southern Haiti. Altitudinai distribution near sea level to 1400 ft. Type locality: Ravine Normande, 11.4 km (6.8 mi.) E, thence 1.3 km (0.8 mi.) N Jacmel, 77 meters (254 ft.), Departement du Sud-Est, Haiti.

INCERTAE SEDIS: Material from Soliette and Pétionville, Haiti, is unassigned subspecificaily.

DiagnosisDESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 24 mm, in females to 26 mm); dorsals
acute, keeled, flattened, imbricate, axilla to groin 25-37; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, imbricate, axilla to groin 24-33; dorsal caudal scales keeled, acute, imbricate, flat-lying, ventral caudal scales smooth, cycloid, enlarged midventrally; snout acute, flat but not depressed; snout scales large, rounded or keeled, juxtaposed, cobble-like or raised; 1-2 (strongly modally 2) postnasals; 1-3 (mode 1) internasals; gular scales between infralabial rami large, juxtaposed, smooth to keeled; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 41-62; escutcheon with broad central area and extensions onto thighs broad basally, roughly triangular, 3-7 x 10-26. Coloration somewhat sexually dichromatic (males with yellow to orange heads and tails, and at times dark vermiculate head patterns); dorsum gray to blackish-brown, or olive with irregular flecking of small black dots; dark lines often present dorsolaterally, laterally, and on venter; scapular ocelli present or absent; a series of postscapular ocelli rarely present dorsolaterally; sacral pattern lineate with dark-edged, dorsolateral light stripes, this pattern continuing onto upper side of tail as parallel, not regularly indented, sometimes interrupted, lines; pair of ocelli at tail base; head with broad, light, dark-edged postocular stripe on temporal region, abutting against a dark-edged, light, transverse stripe anterior to level of auricular opening; ends of transverse stripe flexed posteriorly to give recurved arc; central head area with irregular lightening of ground color producing mottling; anterior neck with dark-edged, light, narrow, transverse bar, discontinuous in some specimens, or paired ocelli or dashes, or without pattern; throat with dark lines (continuations of dark labial marks and postocular stripes) convergent medially, present to absent (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 538).
