Etymology | Named after Alexander Frederick Richmond (Sandy) Wollaston (1875-1930), British physician, ornithologist and explorer, who led the Wollaston expedition on which this species was discovered. Wollaston later took up a position as a tutor at Cambridge, where he was shot dead by a deranged student. (Glenn Shea, pers. comm., 2 Feb 2024) |
