Types	Holotype: AMNH 31994 Holotype: ZISP 17598, “Rintja Island in the Lesser Sundas Archipelago” [Indonesia]. Leg.: I.S. Darevsky, 13.VIII.1962 [Sphenomorphus oxycephalus]
Diagnosis	Diagnosis: “A Homolepida with 22 smooth scales, fourth toe longer than third and with 10 subdigital lamelae; preanals enlarged” (from DUNN 1927).
Comment	Abundance: this is one of the species called “lost” and “rediscovered” by Lindken et al. 2024.
Etymology	Dunn 2917: 9 says “I thought it appropriate to associate the name of Schlegel with this species, since the name of Temminck is already associated with the Sudanese form.” Hermann Schlegel (1804-1884) was a German herpetologist. Sphenomorphus oxycephalus was named after Greek “oxy”, sharp, peaked, cuspate and “cephal”, head, referring to the species head shape.
