CommentSynonymy: Spilotes megalolepis GÜNTHER 1865 has been resurrected from synonymy with S. pullatus by Orces & Almendariz 1989.

EtymologyNamed after the large scales (”lepis”), from Greek μεγάλος (megalos) = big and Greek lepis (λεπίς) = scale.
