Type locality: “Isole Kei” [the Kei Islands, Maluku Province, Indonesia].  
Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesHolotype. MSNG 7521, most likely an adult male, collected by Odoardo Beccari between 6 July and 4 September 1872.

CommentSynonymy: Listed as a synonym of S. cucullatus by Wallach et al. 2014, but Kaiser et al. 2018 revalidated it. 
EtymologyNamed for the Kei Islands, Maluku Province, Indonesia, where this species is native.
