EtymologyNamed after the Huancabamba area, an east–west depression through the Andes of N Peru and S Ecuador  [“...The name huancabambae, a noun in genitive case, is derived from the geological term "Huancabamba Deflection" used to describe the general area from which all specimens of Stenocercus huancabambae have been collected. ...”].
