Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Medium to large sized, up to 80 mm from snout to vent; toes not depressed without a distinct lateral fringe, usually 5 rows of scales beneath; rostral reaches nostril but first upper labial scale often separated; preanal pores usually present; cloacal tubercles typically in two rows; autotomy restricted to tail base; prefrontal projection strong; upper border of prootic sloping markedly downwards; epipterygoid widely separated from sku~ roof in protracted skull; usually 24 presacral vertebrae, 6 nuchal ribs and 5 basal caudal vertebrae; tlavicle expanded; tail with 3-5 dark bands which do not extend to tip, conspicuously black and white in juveniles [ARNOLD 1980: 395].
