Type locality: Addaya, 40 km west of Mossul, Iraq.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Medium-sized, up to 55 mm from snout to vent; toes not depressed or fringed, one row of scales beneath; rostral and first upper labial scales reach nostril which is directed forwards and upwards; preanal pores absent; cloacal tubercles in a single row; autotomy restricted to tail-base; prefrontal projection absent or weak; upper border of prootic sloping downwards to some extent; epipterygoid separated from skull roof in protracted skull; 25 presacral vertebrae in most cases; 6 nuchal ribs; usually 5 basal caudal vertebrae; clavicle expanded; tail dark, especially in juveniles. Generally similar to S. sthenodactylus but distinguished by forwardly directed nostrils, consistent presence of six nuchal ribs and its relatively short, usually dark tail [ARNOLD 1980].
