DiagnosisDiagnosis: Medium-sized, up to 60 mm from snout to vent; toes not depressed, at most weakly fringed, with 3-5 scale-rows beneath; rostral and first upper labial scale reach nostril which is directed forwards, outwards and upwards; preanal pores usually present; cloacal tubercles in a single row; autotomy restricted to tail-base; no prefrontal projection; upper border of prootic not obviously sloping downwards; epipterygoid close to skull roof in protracted skull; 26 presacral vertebrae; 5 pairs of nuchal ribs; usually 5 basal caudal vertebrae; clavicle expanded. Similar to S. sthenodactylus but distinguished by higher number of scale rows beneath digits and by consistently having 26 presacral vertebrae and, usually, femoral pores. S. slevini which may contact S. yemenensis, differs in typically having the first upper labial separated from the nostril, finer body scaling (often over 115 scales around mid-body), a strong prefrontal projection, upper border of prootic sloping strongly downwards, epipterygoid well separated from skull roof in protracted skull, usually 25 presacral vertebrae and 6 pairs of nuchal ribs [ARNOLD 1980].
