Types | Holotype: lost; formerly Zoological Society (London) 383, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), in error. Kluge (1967) erroneously considered that BMNH 64.10.6.7 (formerly xxi.5a), from Abrolhos, collected by J. Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A subspecies of D. spinigerus with a broad black median stripe on back and tail. (The species is distinguishable from all other Diplodactylus by the combination of two rows of long blackish spines on tail and very short or no spines above eye.) Etymology | Named after Latin “spini” (= thorn) and “ger-” (= bearing). D. s. inornatus was named after the Latin word for unadorned. |
