Type species: Tachymenis peruviana WIEGMANN 1834 is the type species of the genus Tachymenis WIEGMANN 1834.

Key: Walker 1945: 52 presents a key to the species of Tachymenis peruviana complex (and keys out the attenuata and chilensis complexes).

Diet: mostly frogs and lizards (Walker 1945: 48) 
EtymologyNamed after its distribution in Peru.

The genus was probably named after Greek tachys (ταχύς), quick, swift + Greek menis (μῆνις), wrath, anger.
