DistributionS Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), Paraguay, Uruguay,
Argentina (Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Rios, Corrientes, Misiones), Peru.

Type locality: Brazil.

TypesHolotype: RMNH RENA.235, a 425 mm specimen (donated from MNHN). 
Diagnosis 
CommentDistribution: This species has been reported from Peru, but without specific locality (T. Doan, pers. comm. 30 Apr 2012). See map in Nogueira et al. 2019. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin ocellata, having ocelli, little eyes or buttonholes (in the sense of round spots). (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
