Type locality: Rio Minas, 15.1 km W Santa Isabel, elevation ca. 1250 m elevation, Prov. Azuay, Ecuador.

EtymologyNamed after Latin, meaning "island in the mountains," referring to the distribution of this species in an isolated intermontane basin.
