Diagnosis 
CommentDistribution: Tarentola boettgeri doesn’t occur on the Cape Verde Islands (A. Vilado, pers. comm.) although it has been reported from these islands.

Subspecies: Tarentola boettgeri bischoffi JOGER 1984 has been elevated to species status, but since T. bischoffi is closely related to T. boettgeri hierrensis (Carranza et al. 2000) it has been treated as subspecies again by more recent authors. 
EtymologyNamed after Oskar Boettger (1844-1910), herpetologist at the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main.

T. b. bischoffi was named after Wolfgang Bischoff (born 1945), German herpetologist. See Zawadzki 2010-2020 for biographical details.
