TypesLectotype: MNHN-RA 7134 (adult), New Holland (description gives Blue Mountains, NSW), collected Quoy & Gaimard. Designation by Wells & Wellington (1985). Other syntypes: MNHN-RA 3024 (adult), MNHN-RA 3023 (juvenile), from Blue Mts., N. S. W. (MNHN catalogue cites New Holland).

EtymologyPresumably named after the Latin niger (black) plus luteus (yellow), in reference to the black and yellow color pattern. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
