Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy partly after COGGER 1983 who listed asper and konowi as synonyms of T. rugosa.

Behavior: This is one of the few reptile species in which monogamy has been observed (Chapple 2003).

Distribution: see map in Shea 2000 (includes all 4 subspecies). 
EtymologyPresumably named after the Latin rugosus (rough) in reference to the enlarged roughened dorsal scales. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
