CommentFollowing Broadley (2000) T. striata and T. wahlbergii are considered as two different species. However, in a recent paper by Castiglia et al. (2006) molecular and karyological evidences suggest the conspecifity of the two taxa.

Synonymy: Monard’s Mabuya striata angolensis is a junior secondary homonym of Euprepis angolensis Bocage. As such Bocage’s name, despite being a junior subjective synonym of Trachylepis varia, must retain the epithet angolensis, and Monard’s name requires a replacement (the special conditions of Article 23.9 do not apply as an insufficient number of citations by an insufficient number of authors have used Monard’s name). As no junior synonyms are known to exist for Trachylepis angolensis (Monard, 1937) Marques et al. 2018 proposed Trachylepis monardi nom. nov. as a replacement name, in recognition of the contributions of Albert Monard (2 September 1886 – 27 September 1952), Swiss naturalist from La Chaux-de-Fonds, who under- took two major expeditions to Angola and left a legacy of specimens and published papers relating to the zoology of not only Angola, but also Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau and North Africa.
EtymologyNamed after the collector of the type, J.A. Wahlberg.

M. angolensis was named after its distribution in Angola.

M. monardi was named after Albert Monard (2 September 1886 – 27 September 1952), Swiss naturalist from La Chaux-de-Fonds, who undertook two major expeditions to Angola and left a legacy of specimens and published papers relating to the zoology of not only Angola, but also Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau and North Africa.
