Type locality: Ouargla, Algérie.

TypesHolotype: unlocated; not in MNHN fide I. Ineich (pers. comm., 21 May 2019), not in BMNH fide Brygoo 1988. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A medium-sized, slender Trapelus with large gular pouch. Head longer than in other African Trapelus species. Dorsal scales equal in size, strongly keeled but not mucronate, no intermixed larger scales. 
CommentListed with a question mark by WERMUTH 1967 who also cited Lataste’s work as being published in vol. 2 of “Le Naturaliste”, but valid after P. Wagner et al. 2011. 
EtymologyNamed after the French herpetologist A. Tourneville.
