Trimeresurus karanshahi was said to differ from T. tibetanus in aspects of scalation (19 rather than 21 midbody scale rows) and pattern but TILLACK et al. (2003) synonymized both.

Type species: T. tibetanus is the type species of the genus Himalayophis MALHOTRA & THORPE 2004.
