Type species: Herpetodryas Serra SCHLEGEL 1837 is the type species of the genus Tropidodryas FITZINGER 1843.

EtymologyNamed after Latin serra, saw. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Greek tropideion (τροπιδεῖον), the keel + Greek dryas (δρυάς), a Dryad, nymph whose life was bound up with that of her tree.
