Comment 
EtymologyThe word truncatus comes from the Latin word truncātus (truncō “maim, mutilate” + -tus "provided with"). It refers to the "truncate snout of the species, which Peters emphasises as being like that of Candoia carinata, which has a similarly "cut-off" bevelled snout." fide Dr. Glenn Shea.
