CommentSynonymy: T. hygomi was synonymized with T. torquatus by Burt & Burt 1930 but revalidated by Vanzolini & Gomes 1979.

EtymologyNamed after Danish sea captain, Vilheml Johannes W. Hygom (born 1818), who sent reptile specimens to the Copenhagen Museum in the early 19th century.
