CommentSynonymy: T. hispidus was synonymized with T. torquatus by Burt & Burt 1930.

Distribution: Erroneously reported from Bolivia (fide DIRKSEN & DE LA RIVA 1999), Uruguay, and Paraguay (fide Cacciali et al. 2016).

Habitat: rocks, sand

Diet: a large percentage of the diet of this species (10-100%) consists of ants (Lucas et al. 2023). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin hispidus, rough, shaggy, hairy, bristly, prickly. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
