Type locality: “Bir al Mashiya und Nawibi, Golf von Akaba, Sinai”, (probably = Nuweibaa, Egypt, ca. 28°58'26.8"N 34°39'13.8”E / 28.974100, 34.653844, and Bi'r al Mashi, Saudi Arabia, ca. 28°52'30.3"N 34°50'45.9”E / 28.875070, 34.846090).

CommentDistribution: Not in Libya. Schleich et al. (1996) included a single record of this species from Libya which was based on Schnurrenberger’s (1962) earlier record (actually from N’el Mehershema) and certainly refers to T. steudneri (Bauer et al. 2017). See map in Machado et al. 2020 (Fig. 1). Ribeiro-Júnior et al. 2022 restricted T. nattereri to S Israel and the Sinai, and split off other populations into a new species, T. yomtovi. See Bar et al. 2021 for a map.

Type locality: Steindachner says in his description that often they only spent “a few hours collecting by the coast” during “short trips", and as they travelled by boat, the type localities appear to be close to the coast. 
EtymologyNamed after Johannes Natterer (1787-1843), ornithologist, and custos at the Natural History Cabinet in Vienna. See Bastos & Sa 2011 for further biographical details.
