Etymology | Presumably named after the Latin intimus (innermost, deepest) and an allusion to the distribution of the species, which Mitchell described as restricted to the Lake Eyre Basin. Lake Eyre is the only point in Australia below sea level. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024) |
