Type locality: at an altitude of 850 m elevation on Gunung Kajang, Pulau Tioman, Pahang, West Malaysia, in hill dipterocarp forest.  
Reproduction 
TypesHolotype: ZRC 2.6157, adult female, collected on 20 March 2004 by P.L. Wood, Jr. beneath a rotten log. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Sphenomorphus ishaki can be distinguished from all other Sundaland species of Sphenomorphus by the unique combination of having an adult SVL of 38–41 mm; 30–32 smooth, midbody scales; 68–73 paravertebral scales; 60–70 ventral scales; four supraoculars; parietals contacting supraoculars; prefrontals in contact; two enlarged posterior superciliary scales projecting dorsomedially; two loreal scales; six supralabial scales; five infralabial scales; 11 keeled, subdigital lamellae beneath the fourth toe; two enlarged, preanal scales; adpressed limbs not overlapping; body bands absent; faint, dark, dorsolateral stripe; distinct, white, postorbital stripe [from GRISMER 2006] 
CommentAbundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after Muhamad Ishak Mat Sohor of Kampung Juara, Pulau Tioman who has served GRISMER as “guide and companion on many treks up Gunung Kajang and who has taught him a wealth of information about the natural history of the forest of Pulau Tioman.”
