CommentOne of the largest species of the genus with a total length of up to 76 cm.

Type species: Stellio spinipes DAUDIN 1802 (= Uromastyx aegyptia) is the type species of the genus Uromastyx MERREM 1820. 
EtymologyThe species was named after its distribution in Egypt.

The genus name of Uromastyx is derived from the Greek “uro” (or “ouros”), meaning tail, and “mastix” meaning “whip” (even though the tail does not exactly look like nor is used as a whip). Uromastyx is feminine.
