DistributionSouth Algeria, Mali and Niger (Air and Hoggar Mountain area).

Type locality: entre Aquebly et Djebbel-Hoggar, Sahara. Lectotype: Gara Djenoum, Ahaggar Mts. Algeria, S Algeria.

TypesNeotype: ZFMK 9230 (designated by MÜLLER 1951); Paratypes: ZFMK 9226, female, upper Tahihaout, 28 April 1914; ZFMK 9227, male, Oued Ouhat, 8 April 1914; ZFMK 9228, juvenile, In Kelmet, 6 February 1914; all localities in the Ahaggar Mountains, South Algeria, from the same collector; ZSM.

CommentStatus of Uromastyx temporalis unclear. 
Etymologynamed after ornithologist H. Geyr von Schweppenburg who brought the first specimens of this species to Europe.
