Etymology | Named after Latin “brevis, -e” = short and “cauda, -ae” = tail. “brevicauda” (short tail) is a noun in apposition, not an adjective, hence its gender is NOT that that of the masculine genus. An adjective would require the name to be “brevicaudatus” (W. Böhme and A. Koch, pers. comm. 13 Aug 2018). |
