Type locality: Lake Tegano (= Te-Nggano), near Niupani, REnnell Island, Solomon Islands.  
TypesHolotype: ZMUC R E 605; Paratype: ZFMK 72865, halfgrown 
EtymologyNamed after Latin "iuxta" = "next to", or "close to"; referring to the close relationship with Varanus indicus.
